The Fulfillment of Being a Mother

In 2015 it’s almost expected for the modern day woman to master the art of balancing being a mother and career woman, as if being a mother is not enough. But by this description of the modern day woman, where does that leave the women who are stay-at-home mothers? What box do stay-at-home mothers check when someone requests their work status? With all the work that goes into being a homemaker and mother, it may be difficult for a woman to swallow the very simplistic title of “stay-at-home-mom”. In fact, it may feel quite insulting. However, whether a mother works outside the home or stays at home, the role of being a mother is one in which requires wearing many hats.

As a mother, some days it appears as if the only things that were accomplished were the changing of dirty diapers, the washing of dishes, and the grocery shopping for the week, but these tasks require an individual equipped with organizational and leadership skills, money management abilities, and even charisma. Throw in helping with homework, prepping breakfast, lunch, and dinner, running errands, and taking the children to soccer and ballet practice -just to name a few- and the skills and abilities needed are limitless. The art of mastering the work-life balance is something every mother, whether working outside of the home or not, has to learn because every mother is assigned the task of managing so much. Although, some may have women believe that being a stay-at-home mother stifles a woman’s true gifts, talents, and abilities, some may highlight the idea that being a mother, whether working outside the home or not, only enhances a woman’s skills and abilities. The fulfillment in being a mother is knowing that mothers are individuals strong enough to hold the weak, capable enough to wear several hats, and secure enough to do it all without the appropriate title ever really bestowed.
