Celebrate Harriet Tubman Day!

Harriet Tubman Day, resolved by the the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America on March 10, 1990, is celebrated by many annually to honor her memory and her bravery.

Harriet Tubman was born a slave in Maryland around 1820 and escaped in 1849. She became a strong and effective speaker to abolish slaver and became a leader on the Underground Railroad, and risked her life and newfound freedom to help others taste freedom as she had. It is reported that she undertook nineteen trips to lead hundreds of slaves to freedom.

During the Civil War, Harriet took on other heroic roles such as soldier, spy, nurse, scout and cook. She also remained a leader amoung newly freed slaves.

She was a fighter for human dignity, human rights, opportunity and justice.
